Abstract:

Background: Disaster preparedness and management in hospitals are interesting research topics. With regard to the studies conducted, this research is performed to collect and compare the published studies about preparation in all hospitals dealing with disaster in the country.Method: In this review study, data and information was searched and collected based on the keywords consist of "hospital disaster readiness", "hospital disaster", "disaster management system" in databases such as Iran Medex, SID, Magiran and also PubMed and Google scholar. Quality assessment of papers was evaluated and finally, the results was compared and analyzed.Findings: A total of 32 articles were found; 21relevant articles were analyzed. Conclusion: According to the results, in most studies, crisis preparation of hospitals was moderate. Therefore, planning is important in order to implement the crisis management program for hospitals and to improve their preparedness in the country.

Abstract:

Background: In DISASTERS, the hospitals’ vulnerability depends on their shortcomings and weaknesses. Therefore, the investigation of possible hazards and vulnerabilities is necessary for effective risk management and planning. Objectives: We aimed to assess the factors affecting risk management of accidents caused by DISASTERS in IRANIAN hospitals. Methods: In this research, the type of study was quantitative-qualitative. We used a semi-structured interview to identify the factors affecting the risk management of accidents caused by DISASTERS in hospitals from experts and executors of disaster management systems. Then, we utilized a questionnaire that was confirmed by experts based on a five-point Likert scale, including 89 items in 4 dimensions and 20 areas. The construct validity of the questionnaire was done by exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis. Finally, the factors affecting the disaster risk management in hospitals were included in four dimensions of harm reduction, by five domains (planning, rules and regulations, technology and information, human resources, and participation), preparedness including six domains (planning, rules and regulations, technology and information, resource management, human resources, and community participation); the response including five domains (planning, technology and information, human resources and community, partnership, and operations), and recovery including four domains (planning, technology and information, human resources and community, and participation). Results: The Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin (KMO) statistic was 0. 963 and so, there was a high correlation between the scale items. There was a significant positive relationship between independents variables such as mitigation (0. 74), response (0. 70), preparedness (0. 68), and recovery (0. 63) and the dependent variable of accident risk management caused by DISASTERS in hospitals. Also, the results of structural equations indicated the significant relationship between the independent and dependent variables. Conclusions: The results showed that there was a good fit among the structural model, the experimental data, and expert opinions. The identified variables are suitable to be used in the form of a final model.

Abstract:

Background: Elderly people are among the most vulnerable groups in natural disaster events. Although old age is responsible for them becoming unequally vulnerable, understanding the different aspects of vulnerability can help health care providers, especially nurses, to manage disaster risk for this increasing number of people. This study intended to explore disaster‑ related vulnerability and its contributing factors based on older adults’ perceptions and experiences. Materials and Methods: This qualitative content analysis study was performed in Iran in 2016. The study was conducted by semi‑ structured interviews of 24 participants, and purposeful sampling with maximum variation continued until data saturation. Results: By analyzing primary codes two main themes were extracted through content analysis, namely personal factors and social factors, from experiences of two experts in the field of health in emergencies and disaster management among 22 IRANIAN elderly participants. Conclusions: This study indicated that age is not the only criteria that makes an elderly person vulnerable, but their lifetime achievements and experiences can determine their level of vulnerability. The results of this study will help health service providers as well as disaster nurses to identify and moderate the factors affecting the vulnerability of the elderly, and by using their rich experience, enhance senior citizens’ resilience to DISASTERS.

Abstract:

Today, organizational resilience and its measurement is viewed as an organizational strategy. Nonetheless, our country ‘ s news agencies are not particularly keen to look at this strategic paradigm despite the existence of vast natural hazards around them, since there are no measurable indicators to manage their resileince regarding their differences with business organizations. Hence, this paper was carried out with the aim of providing resilience assessment indexes of IRANIAN news agencies in natural DISASTERS and determining the importance of each of these indices using Delphi method. In the first round of Delphi, 15 experts of the field were deeply interviwed to extract indices. As a result, extraction of 71 sub-indexes, 14 indexes and 5 dimensions were based on two steps of coding: open and axial. BAsd on the extracted sub-indices, questionnaires were developd for a second and third rounds Delphi to examine the consensus among experts on the “ The Need for Each Sub-Indicator” and “ The Importance of Each of them” . The results showed the consensus of exprts on applying 70 sub-indicators in the form of 14 indicators and 5 dimensions of “ Communication Resilience” , “ Information Resilience” , “ Structural Resilience” , “ Individual Resilience” and “ Organizational-Technical” to assess the rsileince of our country’ s news agencies in natural DISASTERS. With a comprehnsive consideration of the organizational dimensions of IRANIAN news agencis, these 70 sub-indexes have been proposed in such a way that they can address the resilience, simultaneous resilience and retrospective resilience for news agencies in natural DISASTERS.

Abstract:

Background: Information, motivation, and behavioral skills are crucial for health volunteers in disaster situations. Objectives: This study investigated the factors influencing the improvement of behavioral skills among health volunteers, based on their perspectives. Methods: The study employed a qualitative method utilizing a model design approach. In the first stage, based on the theoretical saturation rule and using a snowball sampling method, up to 16 experts were purposefully interviewed in Tehran, Iran, in 2024. Data were collected in three stages: Completion of the “Behavioral Skills Promotion of Health Volunteers in DISASTERS” questionnaire by experts, text mining, and interviews with experts. Graphical chart production and modeling were performed using MAXQDA software. Results: The main themes and subthemes extracted for the desirable model included comprehensive education, specialty-oriented education, community-oriented education, neighborhood-oriented education, and organized education. Accordingly, the motivation, behavioral skill, and information structures of the Information-Motivation-Behavioral Skills (IMB) model were developed. Conclusion: The primary components of the IMB model were effective in categorizing the needs of health volunteers to enhance their behavioral skills.
